The brands of the Volkswagen Group jointly delivered 8,882,000 cars last year. An enormous number, but it is 4.5 percent less than the group was able to sell in 2020. Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi delivered fewer cars last year.
Of the nearly 8.8 million passenger cars and commercial vehicles delivered by the Volkswagen Group in 2021, 5,328,100 were Volkswagen passenger cars. This means that the Volkswagen car brand has by far the largest share of deliveries, but the brand has seen its numbers decrease by 8.1 percent. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, in turn, delivered 359,500 new vans, but that was also less than in 2020 (-3.2 percent).
Volkswagen is not the only manufacturer within the car group that delivered fewer cars in 2021 than a year earlier. Skoda made it to 878,200 deliveries in 2021, 12.6 percent less than in 2020. Audi delivered only marginally fewer cars in 2021 and ended with 1,680,500 deliveries 0.7 percent lower than in 2020.
But there is also good news for the Volkswagen Group. For example, we previously wrote about the sales record of Porsche and Lamborghini, but Seat also did better in 2021 than in 2020. With 470,600 units, the Spanish department of the group delivered more than 10 percent more cars than a year earlier.
Electric
The Volkswagen Group is also proud to report that it delivered almost twice as many electric cars in 2021 than in 2020. In total, this concerns 452,900 cars, more than 95 percent more than in 2020. The smallest profit was achieved in Europe in the EV area. but with 310,400 units there was still a growth rate of almost 62 percent. Europe is by far the largest EV market for the Volkswagen Group. China follows with 92,700 electric cars from the group (+200.2 percent). Volkswagen also has the largest share in EV deliveries. Of the more than 450,000 EVs delivered in 2021, 263,200 had a VW badge on their nose (+96 percent). Audi accounted for almost 82,000 EVs (+58 percent) and Skoda and Seat successively kicked it to 49,100 (+223 percent) and 13,000 (+78) units.
The Volkswagen ID4 can call itself the king of the electric corner of the Volkswagen Group. 119,600 copies were delivered. The ID4 is followed by the ID3 (75,500 units) and the Audi E-tron and E-tron Sportback (49,200). The Enyaq iV from Skoda follows in fourth place with 44,700 deliveries and in fifth place we find the Volkswagen e-Up of which 41,400 units were still delivered. Porsche sold only 100 units less of the Taycan than Volkswagen sold the e-Up.
