Dunlop recalls KR106 MR3 for incorrect rubber compound

Not that anyone in the Netherlands has noticed anything, but still. Dunlop has issued a recall for the KR106 MR3 track slick. This concerns the production of week 47-49 2021, where something went wrong with the rubber composition in the production process.

Dunlop recalls KR106 MR3 for incorrect rubber compound

Worldwide, according to the Dunlop spokesperson for distributor Hoco Parts, several hundred tires have been retrieved as a precaution. Not a single tire had been delivered to a dealer in the Netherlands.

At Dunlop’s factory in France, they had discovered that during the week 47-49 2021, the rubber from the sidewall of the tire had been mistakenly applied to the tread, which could theoretically reduce the grip on the tire.

Reason for Dunlop to recall the troubled batch of KR106 MR3 120/70 R17″ front tires. The speed with which the recall was rolled out is remarkable. Where a recall sometimes takes months or years of research, Dunlop has now addressed this issue fixed within a few weeks.

As far as is known, the wrong rubber compound has not led to crashes.
