Renault has tightened its electrification plans. In Europe, Renault will only sell fully electric cars from 2030. That says Renault CEO Luca de Meo to Automotive News.
More and more car manufacturers are putting a hard deadline on the switch to selling only fully electric cars. Renault had already mapped out a fairly concrete electrification plan, but is now tightening it. CEO Luca de Meo tells Automotive News that from 2030 Renault will only sell electric cars in Europe.
Renault indicated in mid-2021 that it had set itself the target of having roughly 90 percent of its sales mix consist of fully electric cars by 2030. The target ‘ninety percent EV in 2030’ has therefore been adjusted to ‘one hundred percent EV in 2030’. This target does not apply to other markets where Renault is active. Renault sells various Dacias under the Renault brand in South America and Russia, among others. Dacia itself also does not seem to become a full EV brand from 2030. Dacia may not go for the EV axe until 2035, just like all other car manufacturers in Europe. The European Union would like to see that only EVs can be sold from 2035 and is working on serious plans to make this legal.
In any case, Renault has a nice range of electric cars in the development rooms. The French come with the electric 5 and with a crossover inspired by the primal 4 that listens to the name 4ever. Until 2025, Groupe Renault will launch nine new EVs. Six of them are Renaults.
