All-season tires more popular in Europe

The popularity of all-season tires has grown strongly in Europe. In 2021, no less than 35 percent more all-season tires were sold than in 2020.

The European Tire & Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has released interesting figures about the car tire market. The association for tire and rubber manufacturers reports, among other things, that fewer car tires were sold to car manufacturers in Europe last year. This is undoubtedly related to the decline in new car sales in Europe. More interesting, however, is the so-called ‘replacement market’. In total, 219,539,000 new car tires have been fitted to ‘existing’ cars. That is no less than 14 percent more than the roughly 192,427,000 car tires that found their way to the rim a year earlier.

It is striking that more and more people are opting for an all-season tire, according to the data from the ETRMA. In 2021, 35 percent more all-season tires were sold than a year earlier. Although the popularity of all-season tires has increased, there are still almost twice as many winter tires sold. The summer tire remains by far the most popular.
