Hey you there, 16 year old! Opel wants you to leave the scooter dealer right now. Because the German manufacturer has something much nicer for you: a real car. You have to deliver a lot of brochures or newspapers for it, because with a starting price of under 10,000 euros, the electric Opel Rocks-e is not really affordable.
The Opel Rocks-e is a Citroën Ami with a different logo and therefore an electric city cart with a top speed of 45 km/h. You can compare it with the Biro, which you see frequently, especially in Amsterdam. The Rocks-e is 2.4 meters long, just under 1.4 meters wide and has a turning circle of only 7.2 meters. Ideal for use in the city.
Opel Rocks-e has a range of at most 75 kilometers
You don’t get much further than that, because the Opel’s 5.5-kWh battery is only good for a range of 75 kilometers on paper. You can simply charge it via a wall socket. It then takes 3.5 hours before the battery is fully charged again. The electric motor of the Rocks-e is 8 hp strong, but delivers 12 hp for a short time if you firmly depress the power pedal.
Electric city car for people with a moped certificate
According to Opel, the Rocks-e bridges the gap between the scooter and the traditional city car. In the Netherlands you can drive the car from the age of 16, provided you have a moped certificate or driving license B. It is not yet known what the Rocks-e will cost. In Germany it costs at least 8000 euros. Opel will keep it at ‘less than 10,000 euros’ for the time being.
