Ferrari presents its new Formula 1 car for the 2022 season: the F1-75. Not only with its naming is the car different from its predecessors, the design and the livery are also undergoing a major overhaul.
Ferrari’s naming made more sense last year. At that time the car was still called SF21H. Now Maranello is turning that into F1-75. This year marks 75 years since Ferrari’s first production car, the 125 Sport, rolled off the production line. Ferrari previously did something similar with the SF70H in 2017. The new car looks quite different from its predecessor thanks to the changed regulations.
The F1-75 resembles the previously unveiled AMR22 from Aston Martin with its cooling fins above the air intakes. At the back, the Ferrari is much less tapered than, for example, the MCL36 from McLaren. The rear wings of the Ferrari and McLaren are more similar, with the wing of the Ferrari appearing to be slightly more curved. Furthermore, the F1-75 has larger endplates featuring small notches at the bottom of the front wing, 18-inch wheels with smooth wheel covers and a livery that consists of a combination of satin red and black. The SF21H was shrouded in a combination of red and dark red. Under the hood is the same blown 1.6 V6 as last year, which is supported by an MGU-H and MGU-K. However, the engine must now run on E10 fuel according to the regulations.
Ferrari F1-75
The aforementioned McLaren is an important benchmark, because that racing stable was Ferrari’s main competitor last year. Recent years have not been too good for the renowned Italian Scuderia, but last year Ferrari showed signs of recovery. Where the team finished sixth in the constructors’ championship in 2020, Ferrari finished third behind Mercedes and Red Bull last year, 48.5 points ahead of fourth-place McLaren. This was partly due to the consistent performances of both Carlos Sainz (start number 55, 164.5 points) and Charles Leclerc (start number 16, 159 points). Both drivers will also be at the start for Ferrari this year and of course they hope to be able to compete again for the podium places.
