German auto unions ask Merkel for help

Several German car industry unions have appealed to Chancellor Angela Merkel. The common goal is to get dealers back on track.

The unions VDA and IG Metall together one letter sent to Merkel. Importer group VDIK and dealer association ZDK also signed that letter. The interest groups have asked for help because the corona virus threatens to bankrupt many dealers. The high stocks that German dealers have remain unsold, which entails an immense cost item.

Sales between dealers and customers are currently stalled in Germany. The statement states: “The production lines are at a standstill and the dealers must remain closed; car sales have almost completely stalled. ” The request is therefore to ensure that regular sales can resume as soon as possible and in consultation with the health authorities. The sales areas are large enough to keep a distance according to the groups and the dealers should not let in too many people at once. “This would minimize the risk of bankruptcy for a large number of companies in an important sector in Germany.”
