Is this the Ferrari Purosangue?

Sports car manufacturers who come up with SUVs: it always causes some fuss in the car world. Ferrari is also coming up with a high-legged model and that will certainly provide some food for conversation. A photo of the Ferrari Purosangue may have already appeared on the internet and it certainly does not show a traditional creation of the brand.

Ferrari and ‘SUV’ seem difficult to mix, but the brand would be crazy not to come up with an SUV-like model. Porsche has been scoring major sales successes for years with the Cayenne (and Macan) and the sales figures of Aston Martin and Lamborghini in particular are heavily speckled by successively the DBX and Urus. Nota bene Lotus even comes with an (electric) SUV. The Instagram account cochespias managed to get hold of an image that allegedly shows Ferrari’s first SUV.

Spyshots Ferrari Purosangue

Ferrari Purosangue (spy shots)

We write ‘allegedly’ because with such low-resolution plates it is not possible to say with absolute certainty whether we are actually a new model or an existing car converted in a photo-editing program. If the latter is the case, a clever cut-and-paste would have taken the Ferrari Roma as a base. The front of the Ferrari Purosangue in this photo somewhat resembles that. What we see, however, is quite similar to previous spy photos of the Ferrari Purosangue, so we dare to take the gamble with a small blow.

The Ferrari Purosangue is less of an SUV than, for example, the aforementioned Cayenne and DBX. With the Purosangue, Ferrari fills the gap left by the FF and its successor GTC4Lusso, although the Purosangue is clearly a four- or five-door, unlike those models, and therefore not a three-door. In addition, Ferrari also seems to follow the cross concept by giving the Purosangue black plastic wheel arch edges. Undoubtedly ‘a thing’ for the Ferrari purists.

The Purosangue, which is Italian for whole blood, will most likely get a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a setup similar to the hardware we find in the 296 GTB (V6) or SF90s (V8), although Ferrari’s GT may also just get a mighty V12. Ferrari already managed to sell a record number of cars last year. The arrival of the Purosangue will undoubtedly set new record numbers.
