The second day of the F1 winter test in Barcelona is over. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc set the fastest time, Red Bull Racing had a somewhat difficult day due to problems with the car.
The second of three Formula 1 testing days at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has come to an end. The teams were a little less busy with mileage today than on Wednesday. Many teams experimented a lot with new parts on the cars.
It was another difficult day for the Alfa Romeo team. Yesterday Alfa Romeo didn’t get much action and today too the total number of laps lagged considerably behind the other teams. Red Bull Racing let Sergio Perez drive today after Max Verstappen was behind the wheel of the RB18 yesterday. The Mexican was only able to complete about half the number of laps Verstappen drove on Wednesday, because there was a problem with the car in the morning. The gearbox of the RB18 played tricks.
The lap times say very little, especially at this early stage of the tests. Just like on Wednesday, however, it was again Ferrari that clocked the fastest time. It is striking that Mercedes took it easy with Lewis Hamilton behind the wheel and Sergio Perez was clearly not yet on the hunt for fast lap times with his Red Bull. The throttle may go up a bit more tomorrow, but we will probably only get a bit of an idea of the ranking during the second week of testing in Bahrain.
Today’s lap times:
- Leclerc – Ferrari – 1,19,689 (78 laps)
- Gasly – AlphaTauri – 1,19,918 (146)
- Ricciardo – McLaren – 1,20,288 (126)
