Temporary production stop for Porsche Macan and Panamera

Temporary production stop for Porsche Macan and Panamera

Due to the war in Ukraine, Porsche is forced to temporarily shut down its factory in Leipzig. This means that production of the Macan and Panamera will be delayed. The production stop is expected to last until the end of next week.

As with parent company Volkswagen, Porsche’s problems stem from a lack of wiring harnesses, which it gets from Western Ukraine. A spokesperson told Automotive News know that the shutdown of production is expected to last until the end of next week. The factory in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, where the brand screws the 911 and the Taycan together, can at least continue to run this week.

For Porsche, it is particularly disadvantageous that the production of the Macan has come to a standstill. The entry-level SUV from Porsche rolled out of the showroom 88,362 times worldwide last year, making it the best-selling model of the brand. With a total of 30,220 deliveries, the Panamera family is slightly less important and ends up behind the Cayenne (83,071 units), Taycan (41,296 units) and the 911 (38,464 units).

This is most likely just the tip of the iceberg for the German car industry. Industry association VDA warns of further disruptions in production as a result of high material prices and a shortage of parts due to the war in Ukraine. BMW, among others, had already had to shut down its production lines in Munich and Dingolfing.
