Maximum tank amount self-service pump to 200 euros

The maximum tank amount for unmanned self-service pumps is increased to €200. According to the Dutch Payments Association, banks gave permission for this after requests from filling stations, which noticed that the current maximum amount was no longer sufficient due to the high fuel prices.

Currently, a maximum of €125 or €150 applies at unmanned filling stations. However, due to the rapidly rising fuel prices, that limit turned out to be too low in more and more cases. With the new limit of €200, you can fill up with 80 liters of petrol and 84.7 liters of diesel at the current average national suggested retail price, which is currently €2.50 and €2.36 for a liter of petrol and diesel, respectively. Most cars already have their fuel tank amply full.

According to the Payments Association, banks are ready for the change, but some gas stations may need some time to adjust the maximum. As a result, according to the association, it may still happen that you can pay with your payment card at some unmanned filling stations for a maximum of €125 or €150 per refueling.

The skyrocketing liter prices for fuel are causing more and more commotion. For example, the ANWB argues for a reduction in excise duty and a VAT-free part of the current fuel prices. At a liter price above €1.711, the VAT should be frozen according to the ANWB. Research by the ANWB among its members shows that almost a third of them now indicate that they are experiencing financial difficulties due to the high petrol prices. In Belgium, the government is already toying with the idea of significantly reducing the tax on fuel.
