The demand for used cars remains enormous and that has an effect on the average price charged for a used car. Autoscout24.nl explains the average price of a second-hand car offered on its site, making this trend painfully clear.
In February, the average price of a used car on Autoscout24.nl was €22,370 euros. That amount is no less than 14 percent higher than a year earlier. In February 2021, €19,657 was still asked for an occasion on the sales site.
The rising asking prices are related to the limited supply of new cars, partly due to the worldwide shortage of computer chips. AD reports based on data from Autodata Nederland – which tracks the asking prices of 235 car models on the second-hand market – that used cars have become about ten percent more expensive in a year. This data has made used hybrid and electric cars even 20 percent more expensive in one year.
