Volkswagen: ‘EV production will restart in April’

The production of electric cars of the Volkswagen Group in Zwickau and Dresden is currently at a standstill due to the war in Ukraine. However, Volkswagen expects to be able to get back to work at the beginning of April, partly thanks to the persistent Ukrainian suppliers.

Like many other car manufacturers, the Volkswagen Group was recently forced to stop part of production due to problems in the supply of parts from Ukraine. In the country invaded by Russia, among other things, wiring harnesses are made that Volkswagen needs for its electric models. However, the delivery of these has not completely stopped and that partly ensures that cars will soon be able to roll off the production line again in the factories in Zwickau and Dresden, Germany.

Work in Zwickau should resume at the beginning of April, understand Automotive News from Volkswagen. The factory in Dresden will probably follow later that month. The progress of the work is in part due to the ramping up of wire harness production in other countries, but also the admirably persevering producer in Ukraine. “Many of our suppliers, especially of wiring harnesses, were or are in Ukraine. They try to keep producing with all their might, which is really unbelievable. They do that near a bomb shelter,” explains Audi CEO Markus Duesmann with due admiration . “The fact that they try to keep producing is a huge achievement from the proud and brave people there.”
