Winter-summer difference of about 100 kilometers
The Audi Etron is available in two battery variants and in two body styles. At the market launch three years ago, it was only available as a 55 quattro, later the range was supplemented with the 50 quattro, which has a smaller battery pack and the Sportback (as well as 50 and 55) made its appearance. For this ‘this is how far the Audi E-tron is in practice’, we naturally get the data from AutoWeek tests, but we also look at reviews from E-tron drivers.
We had the 55 quattro twice in a comparative test, which is a period in which we drive the car for a week. The first time it was the normal one, the second time it was the Sportback. There is no significant difference in efficiency between the two variants, although the Sportback with its sloping roofline should be slightly more economical. In the first test, the temperature was 13 degrees Celsius, in the test in which the 55 quattro Sportback competed against a Jaguar i-Pace 400 it was 11 degrees. We arrived at 330 kilometers on a charge in early 2019. The WLTP factory specification was 417 kilometers. In the test with the 55 quattro Sportback at the same temperature, the car reached 317 kilometers on a battery charge. Consumption averaged 27.2 kWh per 100 kilometres.
50 quattro also in winter
Incidentally, we drove the 50 quattro at the beginning of 2020 at 9 degrees and the consumption was 28.2 kWh/100 km. With that variant with a battery pack of 71.2 kWh, against 86.4 for the 55, the range is then just 300 kilometers.
We have not done summer tests with an Audi E-tron, but fortunately the many reviewers provide valuable input for this ‘This is how far the Audi E-tron has come in practice’. Summer values come to 340 kilometers for calm drivers, winter conditions lead to 250 kilometers, and even less for reviewers who drive a 50 quattro. Fast charging is often praised. This is possible with the E-tron with a power of up to 150 kW.
The range of an E-tron in the winter is around 250 kilometers, and in the summer around 350 kilometers is achievable.
