Renault resumes Russian production

Renault suspended production at its factory near Moscow shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Work will now continue, although it is unclear for how long.

After the invasion of Ukraine, developments around the car industry in Russia followed one another in rapid succession. In late February, it was announced that Renault was suspending production in Russia, formally over a part supply disruption due to ‘strengthened border controls between Russia and neighboring countries’. Now reports Reuters that Renault’s Russian branch can resume work. Then we are talking about the production of the Dacia Duster, sold in Russia as Renault Duster, the Renault Kaptur (photo above, despite external similarities a substantially different car than our Captur), the Arkana and the Terrano from alliance partner Nissan.

A spokesperson said Reuters know that it is still unclear whether production will continue undisturbed. “The situation with parts deliveries is volatile, so we prefer not to make predictions.” Incidentally, Renault Group in Russia is also responsible for AvtoVAZ, the parent company of Lada. Production has already been suspended and that does not appear to be changing for the time being.
