We mainly focus on the Personal Vault. This feature is available through the client, as well as through the online version of OneDrive. The safe is for personal files that you want to have available everywhere, such as a photo of your passport or your insurance papers. Every time you need to access the files, you have to unlock the Personal Vault.
The folder (which it actually is) has a number of tightened properties compared to regular OneDrive folders. For example, no thumbnails of images are shown and you cannot share items with others. Also, the files are not cached on the computer.
If you use Windows 10 or Windows 11 to open the files from the vault, they are automatically encrypted with BitLocker. By default, the Personal Vault locks automatically after 20 minutes of inactivity. You can adjust this period via the settings window.
