Arlo introduces new security camera Arlo Go 2

Smart home brand Arlo today launches a new security camera: Arlo Go 2. This is an outdoor camera that can connect to WiFi, but there is also a SIM card slot for 3G or 4G connection.

Go 2 is Arlo’s new showpiece that should be especially available for people who want to secure something that is just outside the Wi-Fi range, for example. Because you can use a SIM card with 3G or 4G, the camera will still have a connection without WiFi. Also useful if your WiFi sometimes drops and your security camera really needs to be online all the time. Arlo itself also gives transport as an example: for example, you can use it to watch over your motorhome or caravan.

Arlo’s cameras are easy to install (see our review of previous copies) and that also applies to the new Go 2. According to the company, you can install this within five minutes. The battery also lasts a long time, so you would be more likely to place a camera in hard-to-reach places. The battery life does depend on how much you use it: if it constantly detects people and if you often watch live images, the battery will deteriorate faster than if you only use it very sporadically and it rarely detects anything.

If it detects something and you want to scare off an animal or human, for example, you can use the built-in siren. You can also use ‘Call a friend’ to, for example, inform a neighbor or other acquaintance who will hopefully take action. If it is not necessarily a malicious intruder, you can also choose to have a chat via two-way audio. If you want to show that you’ve seen someone without using the siren or talking, you can also choose to turn on the spotlight to give someone a good start.

You can stream live 1080p color video directly to your phone no matter what time of day it is if you wish. This is free, but if you also want to review the images, you need Arlo Secure, a subscription form that allows you to review the images for 60 days via cloud storage and on which you have personalized detection. This allows the camera to understand that the movement it saw was a cat, rather than a burglar. Arlo Secure costs 2.99 euros per month for one camera (10 euros for an unlimited number of cameras).

Arlo Go 2 is available from July 1, 2022 for a suggested retail price of 299.99 euros.
