Major maintenance

Rijkswaterstaat will soon be carrying out major maintenance on the A50 between Arnhem and Apeldoorn. As a result, this stretch of highway will be closed to all traffic for sixteen days between the Beekbergen and Waterberg interchanges. The extra travel time is approximately half an hour.
Anyone who has ever driven on this section of A50 knows that the road surface is no longer of the best quality. That is why Rijkswaterstaat has given orders to, among other things, repair the concrete deck, apply new asphalt and new road markings and replace the joint transitions. According to Rijkswaterstaat, by closing the highway completely instead of partially, more work can be carried out and the safety of both road users and road workers is better.

The road section, which has a length of 21 kilometers, will be closed on Friday 5 August and will reopen on Monday morning, 22 August at 5 am. During that period, traffic from Arnhem and Nijmegen can detour in the direction of Apeldoorn via the A12, A30 and A1. Do you want to go to Twente or the Achterhoek? Then it is advised to drive via the A12 and A18/N18. Local traffic must observe the yellow diversion signs. According to Rijkswaterstaat, the extra travel time for the diversions is approximately half an hour.
Incidentally, this does not end with the work on the A50. The Beekbergen junction is in fact scheduled for a thorough overhaul that should be completed in 2025. This should improve the flow from the A50 to the A1 during rush hour. Now there is often a traffic jam in the evening rush hour in front of the Beekbergen junction in the direction of Deventer.
