Lidl launches a cheap electric car with an “all-inclusive” subscription

True to its habit of offering attractive prices on popular products, such as kitchen robots or game consoles, Lidl is now launching into electric vehicles with a city car accessible thanks to an “all-inclusive” monthly package at a low price. .

To offer this new service, Lidl has teamed up with Like2Drive, a German start-up specializing in the rental of electric vehicles by subscription. We are talking here about an all-inclusive system (excluding fuel) which is not based on rental with option to buy (leasing).

The car itself is manufactured by the German brand Elaris whose factories are located in China. On the manufacturer’s website, there are three car references: the BEO, the PIO, and the FINN. It is the latter that is now marketed by Lidl in Germany and Austria.

If this FINN model means anything to you, it is because it is an updated version of a model called “Zotye Zhima E30” which was also marketed under the name “Dorcen E20”. in China three years ago. A proven model therefore, which allows the manufacturer to make economies of scale and thus offer attractive prices.

A compact city car

With its 2.87 meters in length, one could easily qualify the FINN as a “pot of yogurt”, but that’s without counting on its technical characteristics which do not have to be ashamed in the face of certain competitors. Thus, the car has a 48 horsepower motor and a 32 kW battery. Enough to propel it up to 115 km / h, with an announced autonomy of 300 km. However, the real autonomy would rather be around 200 km.

Thanks to its small battery, this two-door car recharges quickly. Count less than an hour to go from 0 to 100% if you use a fast charging station. It also offers interesting comfort in the passenger compartment with air conditioning, a GPS navigation system and DAB+ radio. The whole thing weighs less than a ton on the scale.

To rent it, you will have to go through the Euromaster stores in Germany or Austria. The catalog price is 20,330 euros, from which an ecological bonus of 6,000 euros must be subtracted. The Elaris FINN can therefore be purchased for 14,330 euros. The Like2Drive company will offer its subscription for this vehicle from the end of September for 269 euros per month with a one-year commitment and 10,000 km included.

To take advantage of a discount that reduces the subscription to 222 euros per month, you will have to be one of the first 100 to reserve the vehicle via the Lidl application using a discount code. All before July 10. This represents a saving of 47 euros per month or 564 euros per year, which is not negligible. The future will tell if Lidl and its partners will also launch this initiative in France.
