Petrol price to ‘lowest’ point in two months

Good news! Kind of. The price of petrol has reached its lowest point in two months, although fuel remains relatively expensive. The decline does not seem to end for the time being.

On Friday, the Average National MSRP of gasoline (E10) according to consumer collective United Consumers is €2,297. Just under €2.30 per liter, that was the last time in mid-May. The peak was reached in June, when the petrol price passed €2.50 per litre. Since then, roughly 20 cents per liter has gone off again.

The decrease is also noticeable for diesel drivers. The GLA price of a liter of diesel is now €2,137, where it was just over €2.30 last month. LPG drivers are of course much cheaper anyway, but with LPG there has also been an ever-decreasing price for about three months. The suggested retail price of a liter of LPG is currently €1.10.

The fact that fuel prices are falling has everything to do with falling oil prices. The expectation is that oil will become a bit cheaper, which is of course favorable for the prices at the pump. The fact that the euro is depreciating against the dollar is slowing down the decline in fuel prices somewhat. Moreover, oil companies are not necessarily ready to cut fuel prices when oil prices fall.
