Silk-FAW reassures you

Will the Silk-FAW partnership build fast-paced Hongqis in Italy or not? It really does look like it. Automotive News reports that Silk-FAW confirms that it is sticking to the original plans and that supercars from China’s Hongqi will see the light of day in Italy.
In early 2021, FAW announced that it wanted to produce electrified and electric super and hypercars of its Hongqi brand in Italy. First Auto Works (FAW) entered into a partnership with engineering and design agency Silk EV for this. The Hongqi S9, a plug-in hybrid exotic with a 4.0 V8 and a system power of – don’t worry – 1,419 hp – would be the first super-Hongqi to be built in Emilia-Romagna, Italy. In the middle of this year, the authorities of that Italian region wanted clarity, Silk-FAW would have had problems, among other things, getting the mortgage for the factory to be built. Good news for those who do find the collaboration interesting: if all goes well, things will continue as usual.
Automotive News reports, based on statements by a senior Silk-FAW official, that the plans as originally on the table will continue. Silk and FAW say they are working hard to get the factory up and running. Silk-FAW not only want to produce the aforementioned Hongqi S9 in Italy, but also several electrified and even fully electric luxury super and ‘hypercars’ are to be developed and built. Initially, production of the Hongqi S9 would start in 2023, although it remains to be seen whether that will be achieved.
