Tesla builds millionth Chinese car

Tesla has in its so-called gigafactory 1 million cars have now been built in Shanghai, China. Tesla CEO Elon Musk reports this.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk can undoubtedly rehearse a new dance. Musk reports on Twitter that it is in his Chinese gigafactory built one million cars in Shanghai. Tesla builds the Model 3 and Model Y in the production facility. The millionth example is a red Model Y.

At the end of 2018, Tesla started building its Chinese giga factory. The huge facility was ready for use in August 2019, although it would take until October for the first car – a Model 3 – to come off the production line. In less than three years, Tesla has now built 1 million cars, bringing the total number of Teslas produced worldwide to more than 3 million, according to Musk.

Tesla’s Chinese factory was the first outside the United States, but certainly not the last. Tesla also has a huge production facility in Germany. Those facilities should help Tesla achieve an ambitious goal. For example, the brand has managed to produce as many as 2 million cars annually around 2023.
