Wink to DBR1 and DB3S

Squeeze an Englishman in the arm and the chance that the nostalgia will come out of the pores is considerable. British car manufacturers have a great predilection for historic models and this time it is Aston Martin that is reviving the past with a new model. Introducing the Aston Martin DBR22, a retro-inspired open-top two-seater.
Aston Martin builds various Continuation series of classic models, but also likes to look back on its rich past with new models. In 2020 we were introduced to the V12 Speedster, an open two-seater without a windscreen based on the DBS Superleggera, which already breathed the atmosphere of the past. The brand now comes with the DBR22, a car that goes a step further when it comes to nostalgia.
Aston Martin DBR22
The DBR22 is an open two-seater with which Aston Martin wants to celebrate the tenth anniversary of its Q by Aston Martin division, the club of the brand where you can make all your exclusive automobile dreams come true if you put enough money on the table. The DBR22 is on the one hand very modern, but on the other hand wonderfully classic. It is an open two-seater with an extremely minimalist windscreen, two seats and two humps on the aft deck. The Aston Martin DBR22 clearly looks classic, although the design of the fully carbon fiber body has remained free of lavish frills. On the front fenders and in the front doors we see a cooling opening with which Aston’s design department hints at classic racers such as the DBR1 and RB3S. The large gaping grille with one horizontal slat and four vertical bars is also a design reference to such classic sportsmen of the brand.
The DBR22 may be historically modeled in terms of design, but technically it is completely up to date. In the long nose is the well-known 5.2 V12 with two turbos that you know from cars like the DBS Superleggera. In the DBR22, the twelve-cylinder engine produces 715 hp and 753 Nm. Aston Martin has already indicated that the DBR22 launches to a speed of 60 mph (97 km/h) in just 3.4 seconds. Its top speed: 319 km/h. The nemesis for your toupee. Shifting is done by an eight-speed automatic transmission and the DBR22 is the first Aston Martin ever whose rear subframe has come out of the 3D printer. Another nice detail are the 21-inch wheels with 14 spokes. They have a central wheel nut.
Aston Martin DBR22
The interior is completely new for Aston Martin. It bans the optically fused center console with the center tunnel. We expect to see something similar in other future cars from the brand. The interior doesn’t look spartan at all. We see an infotainment screen flanked by vertically oriented ventilation grilles, a digital instrumentation and enormous amounts of carbon fiber. All the leather straps in the door panels and center console and the brown leather finish on the dashboard, among other things, provide a touch of classic experience.
Officially, the DBR22 is still a concept car, but you can bet that Q by Aston Martin will actually produce a handful of copies.
