Only 850 kilos
The number of ‘restomods’ of the Porsche 911 is almost uncountable. Nevertheless, the 911K from British Porsche specialist Tuthill is worth mentioning. This is mainly due to what is not on it.
Weight saving was the magic word at Tuthill. The 911K weighs only 850 kilograms with all liquids in it. For comparison: an original 911 Carrera RS 2.7 from 1973 weighs 900 kilos. First of all, Tuthill kept the weight low by using carbon fiber. The roof, the doors, the front and rear bumpers, the hood, the rear side panels: almost the entire body of the car is made of the material. Tuthill does not change the lines of the 911. The 911 K could pass for an original 911 from the 1970s.
In technical terms, however, the 911 K is anything but original. In the back is a 3.1-liter six-cylinder boxer engine that, according to Tuthill, you can get through to no less than 11,000 rpm. The Porsche specialist does not give up the power, but with the low weight it does not take much to make the 911K shoot from its place. Furthermore, Tuthill installs a magnesium gearbox with six gears, carbon-ceramic brake discs, a hydraulic handbrake and new dampers. In the interior, Tuthill sticks to the essentials. You look out on three counters and the dashboard is also very empty. The interior of the 911K is also richly sprinkled with carbon fiber.
It is not (yet) known what the 911K should cost. Tuthill indicates that the car will be built in a small series, of which the gold-coloured example shown is the first.
