The Chinese premium brand Hongqi is finally establishing a foothold on the Dutch market through dealer company Stern. The electric SUV E-HS9 will be the brand’s first model in the Netherlands and will be coming our way in the fourth quarter of this year. The price tag is currently unknown.

It had been in the pipeline for a while that the E-HS9 would come our way. Hongqi already announced at the end of 2020 that it wanted to enter the Dutch market. It was then quiet about Hongqi’s European ambitions, but in February of this year the Chinese announced that the E-HS9 was coming to Norway. The Netherlands can now be added to the list through the collaboration with Stern. Stern, a subsidiary of the Swedish Hedin Mobility Group, will provide import, sales and after-sales services in our country on behalf of Hongqi. That will start soon, because the first copies of the E-HS9 should be delivered to Dutch customers this autumn.

Hongqi is part of the Chinese state-owned company FAW Group and one of the oldest and most prominent car brands in China. Senior Communist Party officials like to be driven around in cars of the brand. With a length of 5.2 meters – about the same length as a Mercedes-Benz GLS – the electric E-HS9 is in the highest regions of the market. As standard, the SUV has two electric motors with a total system output of 436 hp. The battery pack basically has a net capacity of 76.5 kWh, with which you should be able to achieve a range of 396 WLTP kilometers.

In addition to that standard version, the E-HS9 will also be available with a more powerful powertrain with 551 hp, a battery pack of 90 kWh and a WLTP range of 465 kilometers. That version should be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.

For the time being, the E-HS9 is the only model from Hongqi that comes to the Netherlands. The Dutch prices of both versions of the Hongqi E-HS9 are not yet known. In Norway, the electric behemoth is on the price list from converted €61,750. By comparison, the much smaller Mercedes-Benz EQC costs more than €65,000 in Norway. If Hongqi can also put the E-HS9 in the Dutch market for about that price, that is a pretty competitive offer.
