New flagship

After the EV6 comes… the EV9! The Kia EV9 will be an SUV that will be as big as it is angular. Kia is now showing itself for the first time photos of the production-ready EV9, although the body of the SUV is still covered with a camouflaging sticker sheet.
The EV6 is the first and as yet the only electric car from Kia’s label that it has devised for its models developed purely as an electric car. The label called ‘EV’, where the abbreviation is followed by a number, is therefore comparable to the Ioniq heading under which Hyundai carries cars such as the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. However, the Kia EV6 does not have to remain the only ‘EV’ from Kia for a long time. In 2019, Kia presented us with the Concept EV9, a concrete preview of an electric SUV that we now know will be unveiled in the first quarter of 2023.
Kia is releasing a series of plates of the final EV9, the production version of the Concept EV9, for the first time. From previous spy photos, we could already deduce that Kia remains quite faithful to its conceptual predecessor for the design of the EV9. That means: an angular carriage with sharp folds, wheel arches that have been knocked out in a special way and idiosyncratic lighting.

The 2019 Kia Concept EV9.
Under the Kia EV9 is a variant of the modular E-GMP platform that is also used by sister brand Hyundai. Technical data is not yet available. The Kia Concept EV9 had to cover about 480 kilometers on paper with a full battery. We therefore expect a comparable range from at least one of the engine versions of the definitive EV9. We aim for the Kia EV9 to be about 4.90 to 4.95 meters long and have a wheelbase of at least three meters. This does not make it Kia’s largest SUV, which seems to be the more than five meters long Telluride. Like Telluride, which is only available in the United States, the electric EV9 will soon offer space for up to seven passengers. Hyundai is also coming with an electric SUV that will be comparable in size to this EV9. That will be the production version of the Seven, a study model that was presented simultaneously with the Concept EV9 in 2019.
The EV9 is the absolute winner in the Kia range. Kia describes the EV9 as its new flagship, a car that “will set new standards in design, performance, range, driving dynamics, technology and comfort.”
