Yes, after all, everything is made up of atoms. Those atoms are made up of a nucleus (containing neutrons and protons) and electrons around it. Those nuclear particles in turn consist of quarks.
The properties of an atom are determined by the number of its particles.
Atoms can bond together to form molecules, for example water consists of one oxygen atom and 2 hydrogen atoms. Depending on which combination you have, the properties are different: CO2 and CO, both gases, for example, are very different in toxicity.
If you look at gas or somewhere in space, do you have molecules or atoms in a ‘void’.

If you want to know more, you can find a lot of information on the internet or in chemistry books. Wikipedia often gives you a good starting point, but many schools and universities have also put information online.
