On vacation I discovered a very special almond oil. This one is not like that of Belgium, because it lowers the blood sugar of people with diabetes. Could this almond oil be a substitute for insulin?

Answer
Dear Naji,
To answer your question, almond oil cannot be a substitute for insulin. People with Type 1 diabetes have to inject themselves with insulin every day and that cannot be replaced by anything else.
Almond oil in the diet does indeed lower blood sugar, but this is only of interest to people with Type 2 diabetes who do not have to inject insulin from their doctor. Incidentally, a study has indicated that eating almonds for breakfast has more effect than almond oil. If someone with diabetes wants to try this, they should talk to their doctor first.
