Dear Sandy,
One can become a paleontologist through a university degree in geology or possibly biology. A VWO diploma is a requirement for such a study. Later in the senior year (or whatever it is called these days), it is best for your son to choose a direction with many science subjects, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology.
