Due to absent-mindedness, I took my pill today while I was on my off week. What should I do now?

I stopped taking my pill on Sunday so that my period could come (this was a few months ago anyway), but due to absent-mindedness I took my pill again today. Could this pose a risk to pregnancy? Should I just take my pill now?

Answer

Best,

Taking a pill in your pill-free week never hurts. It won’t make any difference to the safety of a contraceptive pill; on the contrary, it even increases security a little. You may “forget” a pill for 7 days in any 28-day period. So taking one pill too many will reduce this to 6 days out of 28 days.

Taking your pill is also a very safe and healthy method. It increases the safety of the pill (you don’t have 7 days per 28 pill-free, but even 0) and lowers the risk of conditions such as endometriosis that can reduce your fertility.

So you can finish your pill-free week (6 days pill-free) and just start again, but you can also continue taking your pill again.

Kind regards,

Due to absent-mindedness, I took my pill today while I was on my off week. What should I do now?
