When exactly did these occur (year)? How many dead were there?…
Answer
Earthquakes are of all times … and I mean geological times. So millions of years. Earthquakes are the result of the movement of the tectonic plates. And the geologists know that this process has been going on for at least 2,500 million years. So we are sure that earthquakes have been going on for more than 2,500 million years.
You should know that we will only be able to measure earthquakes effectively with seismographs for 100 years. For that we have to search in historical documents or in geological structures. Lists of recent earthquakes can be found on the links I have included (for Belgium and America). What the analysis of earthquakes over the past century has shown is that the number of earthquakes remains constant on average, i.e. does not increase or decrease.
