Statement: ‘I drive less because of the high fuel prices’

2022 will go down in the books as the year of high energy and therefore fuel prices. The paper towels at the gas station were given the extra task in their fiber-rich existence to wipe tears dry. High time to make the following statement: ‘I drive less because of the high fuel costs’.

Fuel prices are skyrocketing this year. The national suggested retail price (GLA) of a liter of Euro 95 (E10) broke record after record, with the absolute low point being a GLA of more than €2.50 per litre. The excise tax on fuel was reduced to somewhat ease the pain, but within two months the petrol price already overtook the implemented excise tax reduction. Fuel prices are currently falling again, but the average national suggested retail price of a liter of petrol (Euro 95, E10) is still above €2.10 at the time of writing. A liter of diesel (GLA €2.14) is also still more expensive than a liter of petrol.

Many tears are shed at the pump. Research by the RAI Association in June showed that almost two thirds of Dutch travelers use public transport or bicycle more often as a result of high fuel prices. We are very curious whether you have also left the car parked more often in order to limit the financial damage to some extent.

Time for a voting round, in which we posit the following statement:

I drive less because of the high fuel prices’

Can you find yourself in that? Why yes, or why not? Maybe you just always fill up for €50? You can give multiple answers.

You can leave explanations and arguments in the comments. And, as always, your opinion does not have to be someone else’s. We should all be on AutoWeek.nl because we have a thing for cars, so be kind to each other and try not to let yourself be drawn out too much.
