Alpina XB7

A day after BMW introduced the facelifted X7 to the daylight, Alpina already released the first image of its version of that sharpened behemoth. Now Alpina has fully released its XB7. As expected, the renewed Alpina XB7 is again a car that seeks the middle ground between sporty performance and pure indulgence.

BMW supplies rock-hard M versions of various SUVs, such as the X3, X5 and X6. BMW’s largest SUV, the X7, has to do without a full M version, but was available as an M50i before the model was facelifted. The X7 was recently quite thoroughly facelifted and got, among other things, a new front with lighting spread over two layers. During that touchpoint session, the M50i gave way to the M60i. The BMW X7 M60i received a thoroughly redesigned 4.4-V8, a mild-hybrid machine that delivers just as much power with 530 hp and 750 Nm as the previous eight-cylinder engine. The German Alpina has its own version of BMW’s X7 in the form of the XB7, a car that had the same eight-cylinder as the M50i. Alpina now presents its version of the renewed XB7, which is logically based on what is now the X7 M60i.

The renewed 4.4-V8 with two turbos does not deliver 530 hp in the Alpina XB7, but 621 hp and 800 Nm. That torque is already available at 1,800 rpm. The XB7, weighing more than 2,730 kilograms, thunders to a speed of 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of 290 km/h. In just 14.8 seconds you have the 200 km/h on the clock. Shifting is done by means of an eight-speed automatic transmission, which has been adapted with ZF. The Alpina XB7 is not an alternative to a non-existent M version of the X7. Instead, it’s an especially more powerful and smoother alternative to the X7 M60i, which is packed with the best Alpina has to offer.

Alpina also puts the updated XB7 on the Alpina Sport Suspension, complete with air suspension. If you want, you can place the XB7 up to 4 centimeters closer to the asphalt. Of course, the behemoth stands on Alpina’s signature 23-inch 20-spoke wheels and a special stainless steel exhaust system hangs under the car. Behind the light metal hides extra powerful braking from Brembo. The discs have a diameter of 39.5 centimeters at the front, and they are almost 39.8 centimeters at the back. The Alpina XB7 has – just like the X7 M60i – an illuminated kidney grille and overloads its occupants with beautiful leather and woodwork. The Alpina XB7 has an expected starting price of €170,500 in Germany.
