New Mercedes-AMG E53 shows itself again

Not surprising, but fresh

New Mercedes-AMG E53 shows itself again

Mercedes is working on a new E-class, and of course that also includes AMG variants. The least intense AMG version of the new E-class is a car that unites all known ingredients, but of course in a new form.

You can think of Mercedes design whatever you want, but not overflowing with originality. The electric EQE is in many ways ‘just’ a small version of the EQS, exactly as has been more or less the case for the Mercedes-Benz E-class compared to the S-class for years. At the moment it is not so bad with the latter models in that regard, but that is mainly because the E-class is basically of an older generation than the current S.

However, that is about to change, we have known since December 2021. That is when the new Mercedes E-class was spotted for the first time and we were able to determine that there are again many similarities with the Mercedes flagship. For example, we now also see smaller, high-positioned headlights on the E, accompanied by a slightly larger and lower grille. In the grille area, there is one big difference with the S, because unlike that car, the E will in most cases have a large Mercedes logo in the grille. The classic Mercedes nose, with a star on the hood and a chrome grille, will also remain.

In the E-class that we can show today, you can find vertical chrome bars under the camouflage material. This is therefore an AMG version, more specifically the E53. We know this from the four round exhaust pipes, which distinguish about 53 from the 63 versions equipped with square chutes. As with the smaller C-class, there are fears of the arrival of four-cylinder engines in the AMG versions, or at least with the 53. Count on a power of ample in the 400, perhaps even more than 500 hp for this ‘mild’ AMG. A return of the current six-cylinder engine cannot be completely ruled out for this larger model.

And further? Well, there is actually little more to see than with previous spy footage. So we still see a modern, but at the same time classic sedan shape, which is much more emphatically recognizable as such than the ‘teardrop-shaped’ electric EQE. However, the trunk lid apparently rises more strongly than with the current model, so that the transition between rear window and trunk now takes place with a less clear ‘kink’. The long nose and the far forward front axle reassure traditionalists: here is a real rear-wheel drive Mercedes sedan.
