In a new tab of the Play Store for Android, you can now more easily search for apps that are not made for smartphones. You will find apps for Android TV, Android Auto and Wear OS, and you can install them directly from your phone.
Play Store Tab
If you want to install apps for Android Auto, you have to do that via your smartphone, because there is no separate Play Store that you can consult directly in the car. You do have it for Android TV and Wear OS watches, but it’s still easier to install apps from your phone. Especially with the latest change in the Google Play Store that 9To5Google now noticed.
You can now more easily filter apps based on the type of device. To do this, go to the in the Play Store on your phone Apps tab at the bottom -> Other devices at the top. In that menu you will see the buttons: Watch, TV and Car.
Telephone as central point
As mentioned, it has been possible for some time to install apps for your TV, watch and car with your smartphone. But now you can also easily browse the Play Store while only viewing apps for the relevant device. Google wants to turn your phone into a central point with which you can manage the other smart systems in your home, including the Play Store apps.
The feature is now gradually being rolled out to phones, but it can already be seen in the editors. Google also recently rolled out an improved interface of the Play Store for Wear OS, which makes discovering apps in installation smoother.
Have you discovered the improvement as on your smartphone? And do you find this function more convenient than, for example, installing apps from the smaller screen of your watch? Let us know in the comments.
