Can your hymen tear?

Asker: Lila, 16 years old

Answer

Best,

Your hymen is not a real membrane, but a remnant at the entrance of the vagina. A kind of ring that marks the entrance of the vagina.

In relations, the ring may be a bit stiff and tear a little at the edge. This may cause some blood loss.

This tearing will, for example, very rarely happen when inserting a tampon, so that girls who are still virgins can insert tampons perfectly.

However, your hymen does not have to tear at the first intercourse; that is something that rarely happens.

Kind regards,
