Exciting final phase

Charles Leclerc takes Pole in Singapore, Verstappen eighth

Qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix was a wild rollercoaster ride, especially in the final phase. Unfortunately for fans of Max Verstappen, that was not a ride that the reigning world champion will remember with warm feelings. Verstappen only managed to qualify in eighth.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc will start the Singapore Grand Prix from first place on Sunday. In the final phase of qualifying, pole position flew from driver to driver, before finally finding a foothold in the Monegask. Max’ teammate Sergio Pérez finished in second place, followed by Mercedes driver and multiple world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Max Verstappen did not get further than eighth place. Verstappen was on a fast lap that could have given him pole position, but was suddenly pulled in by Red Bull. The result: no fastest time and not even a place on the second or third row of the grid. Qualifying started on a wet track and so most of the laps were finished intermediates drove. In the last part of qualifying, the soft tires were taken out of the stable.

In theory, Max Verstappen can already claim the world title in Singapore, although of course something is needed for that. For example, Verstappen has to win the race and teammate Pérez has to finish in fourth or lower place. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, second in the championship, should not finish higher than in eighth place to make the points difference so big that no one can deprive Verstappen of his second world title.
