Production of the Toyota bZ4X (and Subaru Solterra) was halted for no less than three months after the recall announced in June. Today, the production line of Toyota’s first in-house developed BEV started up again. According to Toyota Netherlands, the stop has no consequences for the waiting times for bZ4X buyers here.
Although the first Toyota’s bZ4X would not appear in the Netherlands until the end of this year, Toyota already announced a worldwide recall last June. The wheel bolts of the electric crossover were not tight enough, so there was a risk of a wheel coming loose. After announcing the recall, Toyota stopped production of the bZ4X and today, more than three months later, it will resume. The brand says it has not only solved the problem with the wheel bolts, but also a problem with the airbags. The Japanese have not released anything about this before.
Now that all problems have been solved, production is starting again. Toyota Netherlands indicates that the production stop has no consequences for deliveries in the Netherlands. In principle, they would start in the first quarter of 2023, with the importer secretly hoping to start the first by the end of 2022 lucky few to be able to deliver. For the time being, despite the production stop, the first quarter of 2023 will remain the period in which the first customers will receive their car.
Only cars with 1-phase charging
Toyota Netherlands cannot yet say how many Dutch people have already ordered a bZ4X. The importer does explain why the production stop has little influence on Dutch delivery times. This has to do with the charging infrastructure on board the bZ4X. In the Netherlands there is almost only demand for cars with the possibility of 3-phase charging, and these were not yet built in the first production phase. Only a few exceptions among Toyota’s customers, who wanted to get into a bZ4X as soon as possible anyway, have ordered a copy without 3-phase capability. They too can now count on delivery early next year.
