Next year there will be two Dutch drivers in Formula 1. Nyck de Vries has been confirmed as a permanent driver for the AlphaTauri team for 2023. The 27-year-old driver from Sneek previously became champion in Formula 2 and Formula E, now he is allowed in the top class of motorsport. “After Formula 2, my motorsport career has been slightly different than usual, but Formula 1 has always been my dream. I am very grateful that this dream is now coming true,” said De Vries.
De Vries suddenly came into full view of various Formula 1 teams as a potential permanent driver after his impressive racing debut in Italy. De Vries filled in for the Williams team for Alexander Albon, who was struggling with appendicitis. De Vries then immediately took points, while teammate Nicholas Latifi finished outside the points.
