Including electric vans from Rivian

E-commerce giant Amazon is investing at least €1 billion in electrifying its European delivery fleet. That will benefit a huge number of Rivian buses, among other things, but the company has more plans.
Amazon says it wants to have more than 10,000 electric delivery vans in Europe by 2025. Now Amazon has 3,000 electric vans in use here. The internet trader also wants to purchase more than 1,500 electrically powered trucks for use in Europe in the coming years. Amazon has already placed an order with Rivian for 100,000 specially developed buses for the US and with Mercedes-Benz for 1,800 vans in Europe. Stellantis can also count on a large order in the near future. At the beginning of this year, it was announced that Amazon also wants to deliver in Europe with electric delivery vans from Stellantis. Amazon will also invest in infrastructure for electric vehicles, by installing thousands of charging points in Europe.
In addition, the company invests in so-called ‘micro mobility centers’ in European cities. The intention is to double these small distribution centers in number. Now Amazon has these centers in more than 20 cities. From these locations, orders can be delivered with electric bicycles or by delivery drivers on foot. Amazon wants to reduce emissions with these steps. The American company has a target to be climate neutral by 2040. CEO Andy Jassy says this ambition will require “significant and sustained” investment.
