I am an 18 year old girl and for a few years now I remove my mascara by wetting a cotton ball and applying a little Ecover hand soap or Sanex soap. The reason I do this is because most makeup removers irritate my eyes. Sanex and Ecover soap are ph-neutral and have natural ingredients and do not contain harsh chemicals. I always get a bit of the soap in my eyes, then they are a little bit red and a bit irritated, but that quickly passes and I don’t really suffer from it. But now I’m wondering if I can get permanent eye damage (blindness?) from getting a little bit of the soap in my eyes every day for the past few years? I’m a very anxious person, so I’m having a bit of a hard time with this question. I do wear lenses (-2.5 and -3.25) and otherwise I don’t suffer from eye problems or anything.
Answer
Best,
That can’t hurt at all. It won’t blind you.
The irritation is annoying, but your tears will wash away the soap. If you suffer a lot from the irritation, I would suggest rinsing with physiological water after cleaning with the soap. SO you won’t have any more irritation.
Be careful not to get any soap on your lenses, because that can make them cloudy. Of course, if you use disposable lenses, that problem does not exist. If you take your lenses off before using the soap, there’s no problem either.
Kind regards,
