Moskvich production to start in December in former Renault factory

In Russia, it is said that production of Moskvich cars will start in December. That happens in a factory that was abandoned by Renault because of the war.

We have known since May that Russia is planning to revive the Moskvich brand. Many details are not known, as is usual with news from Russia. Reuters now reports that Moskvich production should start in December. Cars from the Chinese JAC would be used as a basis, although that is no more than a rumor.

The former Renault factory near Moscow is in the hands of the Russian government, which is trying to keep some jobs through the restart. For this year one would hope for a modest start-up with 600 cars, but next year there should already be 50,000 cars off the production line at the factory. This would also include electric cars, although we do not yet know exactly what they will look like – or approximately.

Moskvich, or Moskvitch, or Moskvich, was founded in 1930. The brand’s last factory to date closed its doors in 2002.
