‘Kia pulls the plug on the Stinger’

Kia will stop production of the Stinger in April 2023. There will be no successor. There is simply no room for a similar model in Kia’s EV strategy.

We have taken note of the news that the curtain will soon fall for the Kia Stinger. The South Korean Auto Times writes that the car must make way for models that are in line with Kia’s electrified offensive. Moreover, due to the modest sales figures, there will be no successor to the Stinger.

Since 2017, the Kia Stinger has found 215 buyers in the Netherlands. People who undoubtedly became very happy with their car. The main drawback, however, was its price: in the thickest version with a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 and four-wheel drive, the Stinger cost almost a ton. For the same money, you also bought a fast BMW 4 Series or Audi A5 Sportback. Cars that no longer had to prove themselves to the picky buyer.

The Kia Stinger was also initially supplied with a two-litre turbo engine (255 hp) and a 2.2-litre CRDi 200 hp diesel, which sent their power to the rear wheels only. Four-wheel drive was reserved for the top model, the 370 hp 3.3 twin-turbo V6. In 2020, the Stinger went under the knife, saying goodbye to the two four-cylinder. Of all the models that Kia has sold in the Netherlands over the years, only the Opirus is even rarer.
