Diesel on ration?

Although petrol prices are no longer as high as earlier this year, a liter of diesel is still more expensive than a liter of petrol. A bizarre situation. The high diesel prices are partly caused by the fact that a lot of energy is required for the production of diesel. Energy is now expensive. In addition, diesel is often made from Russian oil, of which there is now a shortage. According to Ewout Klok, chairman of the Tank Stations Association (BETA), there is a good chance that diesel will soon no longer be available at some gas stations in the Netherlands, Klok told ANP.
A boycott on Russian oil is expected later this year. This simply means that no more diesel is being obtained from Russia, with the result that expensive diesel has to be obtained from other countries. “Stocks are extremely erratic at the moment and totally unpredictable,” says Klok. The chairman of the interest group does not expect large oil companies such as Shell and Texaco to run out of diesel, but says it is quite possible that local and often cheaper stations will soon run out of diesel.
“The motorist in the Netherlands is the victim. People with a diesel car already pay much more road tax than petrol drivers and now the fuel is also considerably more expensive than petrol. It no longer pays to drive diesel,” says the chairman of BETA. The Average National Recommended Price (GLA) for a liter of diesel is now €2.26, that of a liter of petrol (E10) is €2.16.
