Last time

Nyck de Vries will be back in Formula 1 next weekend. The Dutchman will again be allowed to drive free practice for the Mercedes-AMG team. It’s the last time; next year he will have a permanent place in F1 at AlphaTauri.
Nyck de Vries is allowed to drive a free practice for Mercedes for the second time in Mexico. He previously did that in France instead of Lewis Hamilton, now he takes over George Russell’s car in the first free practice. It is already his fourth free practice this season for De Vries, he also drove a session for Williams and Aston Martin before.
He drove a free practice session for the latter team in Italy, after which he suddenly had to fill in for Williams for Alexander Albon, who had fallen out with appendicitis. De Vries then also drove his first GP and immediately scored points with a very creditable ninth place. That put him on the shortlist from several F1 teams for a permanent place next year. He eventually got it at AlphaTauri, where he will succeed Pierre Gasly who left for Alpine in 2023.
