Jeep CJ Surge Concept

Jeep grabbed one of its most iconic models ever and prepared it for the future. The Jeep CJ Surge Concept is a modernized CJ with, how could it be otherwise, electric drive.

Jeep goes pretty well with electric drive. In Europe, we will soon be introduced to the all-electric Avenger, and more all-electric new Jeeps are in the pipeline. However, the Americans have not forgotten their past. It would love to see its iconic CJ (Civilian Jeep) live on in a time when the fuel engine is losing out. With this Jeep CJ Surge Concept, it shows how the CJ has a future when there are more charging stations than gas stations.

Jeep took a CJ dating from the 1950s, which was available not only with a four-cylinder engine (like the original Jeep) but also with six-cylinder and with a V8, and hung an electric motor in it. A 272 hp strong copy, to be precise. Behind the two sports seats in the CJ Surge Concept are 24 lithium-ion batteries hidden that provide the electric motor with a zest for life. Jeep keeps in the middle how the range turns out. We do know that forces go to all four wheels, as it should in a CJ. Furthermore, the CJ Surge Concept has an automatic transmission and a two-stage transfer case, so probably he will not only quickly move from his place, but there is also a very decent top speed to get.

Of course, the party is not complete without the necessary external decoration. Mopar, the aftermarket and tuning division of Stellantis’ American brands, has been able to indulge in the CJ. In addition to modern sports seats, the CJ has extra wide wheel arches, 18-inch ‘Black Rhino’ painted wheels with 35-inch off-road tires, modern bumpers with a winch and fog lamps in the front, and a special roll cage.

The Jeep CJ Surge Concept is more than a one-time finger exercise for Mopar. It is a study model with which the company wanted to gain insight into the installation of an electric powertrain in classic cars. There is a good chance that Mopar will sooner or later offer several EV conversion kits for various classic models from Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Ram.
