Business drivers refuel less along the highway

Lease drivers refuel less along the highway than before the corona pandemic. The number of highway transactions that lease drivers make at gas stations along highways is 60 percent of the period before the pandemic, according to figures from mobility card provider MultiTankcard. The percentage of transactions made by lease drivers at gas stations not located along the highways is 80 percent of the period before the corona pandemic. According to MultiTankcard, the above is partly due to the fact that more people are working from home. In addition, there are more and more lease drivers with an electric car who charge instead of refueling (at other locations).

SMEs and self-employed persons also refueled less often along the highway during the cornona pandemic. It is striking here: during the corona pandemic, these groups in total refueled more often than lease drivers. According to MultiTankcard, this has to do with the fact that a large part of this group carries out work for a customer or at a specific location. The number of transactions that freelancers and SMEs made at gas stations along the highway is 80 percent of the pre-pandemic level. Here, a clearer shift to off-highway gas stations is discernible. The number of transactions made by these groups at gas stations outside the highways is 110 percent from before the pandemic.
