Dealers as service points

BMW wants to follow the example of various new brands with a direct sales model, says a German news site. The intermediate layer of BMW dealers would thus be transformed into a service network.
“We want to give customers the opportunity to order directly from us,” said BMW CFO Nicolas Peter in an interview with the Munich Merkur. BMW previously spoke of a greater role for online sales, but now it is no longer just about expanding the possibilities. According to Peter, a whole new sales structure is being worked on, in which direct sales will become the norm and dealers will be reduced to service companies. Exactly as it goes with brands such as Tesla and Polestar, so.
Direct sales would start at Mini as early as 2024, followed by BMW in 2026. If the model becomes reality, fixed prices will also be used from that moment on. So no more negotiations. BMW is already in talks with its German dealers about the plans. For the sake of clarity: those dealers do retain a role, but it will clearly be different when this plan is implemented than is currently the case. We will check with BMW Netherlands whether more is officially known about the plans.
