8 times around the world

Opel is 160 years old this year and the Corsa has reached the respectable age of 40 years, but there is another reason for Opel this year to put the flowers outside. The brand has produced its 75 millionth car.
Although Opel has been producing cars ‘only’ since 1899, the company has secretly existed for 160 years. In the first decades of its existence, Opel concentrated on the production of sewing machines and bicycles, but the brand was better off building cars. In its 123 years as a car manufacturer, Opel has produced tens of millions of cars. 75 million units, to be exact.
75 million cars is, of course, an immense amount. Suppose that the average Opel over the years was about 4 to 4.5 meters long and we take 4.25 meters as a value to do a crazy calculation, then Opel has produced 318,750 kilometers of cars in 123 years. If you park all those 75 million Opels in a row, a traffic jam will form that goes around the world almost 8 times. Amusing? Secure. Useless information? Also that.
From 1983, Opel is by far the most popular car brand in the Netherlands. In that little bit 40 years, Opel has sold no less than 2,102,887 cars in the Netherlands. Volkswagen follows in the same period with 1,851,254 units by a considerable distance in second place. With 481,300 units registered in the Netherlands, the Astra is the model of which Opel has sold the most units. In second and third place are the Corsa (444,503 units) and the Kadett (267,053 units).
