Paint is a mixture (different substances together), it is important that you have something that gives color (also called pigment). But you also have to be able to use them, which is why they have to be liquid like water. But then again that is way too runny, your paint will run, so other substances are added so that you get something that is more of a paste, but also not as solid as chocolate spread, more like honey.
